Compact License Overview

Here are the 9 steps necessary to get a valid IDLC driver’s License. The Process can be completed in as little as one month to four months depending upon you residency status.

One of the most common questions is “how long will this take?” The answer to this question depends a lot on your current circumstances and how quickly you are able to complete the each step of the process. For example, if you are already a Colorado Resident we can begin the process immediately. In that case you could have your new license in a month or less!


Step One: Complete a Driver’s License Inquiry Form and set up a consult with one of our legal experts to see if you qualify.

Step Two

Get a copy of you driver’s history from every state in which you have a driver’s license hold. If you’re not sure, check with the state DMV where you currently live. Here is list of all State DMVs:

Step Three

Establish Legal Residency in Colorado with our help.

Step Four

Apply for a regular Colorado driver’s license at any one of 36 Driver’s License Offices (appointment necessary).

Step Five

Your license application will be denied. Upon denial we will submit your application for an administrative review or DMV hearing.

Step Six

Get your IDLC license approved, there will be conditions such as installing an ignition interlock on your vehicle for at least two years and SR22 Insurance if you were revoked for DUI.

Step Seven

Satisfy any necessary reinstatement conditions and schedule a driving test. This can include installing an ignition interlock in your vehicle, obtaining the correct insurance and determining what, if any, treatment and classes you will have to complete

Step Eight

Complete necessary DMV required testing, including a Road Test.

Step Nine

Your valid Colorado Driver’s License will arrive in the U.S. Mail at you current Colorado Address!


How Long Will It Take To Get Your New Driver’s License?

If you currently live in another state and must establish Colorado Residency before Colorado DMV will consider you for a Compact driver’s license the realistic minimum time to complete the process is about two to three months. If you already live in Colorado we can get you a license in as little as one month. Keep in mind these are estimates of the minimum time to get your new license and that the actual time it will take depends upon how quickly you can complete the necessary steps.
